Pool Remodels That Change the Whole Yard

Transform a tired pool into a luxury centerpiece with new finishes, tile, equipment and automation, or a complete redesign of the pool and the space around it.

Pool Remodeling

Start From the Shell, Not From Dirt

Many East Valley homes came with a pool that no longer fits the family or the house. A remodel keeps the most expensive part, the shell, and rebuilds everything people see and touch.

Scope ranges widely. A refresh might mean a new interior finish, waterline tile and coping. A mid-level remodel adds new equipment, LED lighting and Pentair automation. A full redesign reworks the entry, adds a sun shelf, benches or a raised spa, brings in water features and replaces the deck around it. We help you decide which level the pool and your budget call for.

Every remodel starts with an honest assessment. We look at the shell for structural cracks, check the plumbing for leaks, test the equipment and note how the pool sits in the yard. If the shell is sound, a remodel is usually the smarter investment. If the pool is in the wrong place or the wrong size, we will tell you a new custom pool may serve you better.

Remodeling also catches up on safety and efficiency, since older pools often carry outdated drain covers, lighting and single-speed pumps. Our Gilbert write-up, inside The Hidden Jewel, shows how far a remodel can go.

What Changes

Common Remodel Upgrades

01

Resurfacing

A new pebble or quartz interior replaces rough, stained or etched plaster and changes the color of the water itself.

02

Tile and coping

Fresh waterline tile and new coping clear away years of calcium scale and update the whole pool edge.

03

A new entry

Wide steps, a sun shelf or lit benches make getting in easier and give the pool a modern lounging zone.

04

Equipment

Variable-speed pumps, new filtration, LED lighting and Pentair automation lower running costs and add phone control.

05

Features

A raised spa, sheer descents, scuppers or a fire bowl can often be added to the existing structure.

06

The deck

Replacing cracked concrete with travertine or pavers often transforms the yard as much as the pool does.

Why Valley Pools Age the Way They Do

Knowing what wore your pool down shapes what the remodel should fix.

Hard water

Scale and etching

Calcium-rich water and evaporation leave white scale on tile and can roughen plaster over the years. New tile, a durable finish and balanced chemistry reset the clock. See our calcium scale guide.

Sun and heat

Faded finishes, cracked decks

UV fades plaster and grout, and heat cycles crack older concrete decks. Remodels often pair a new interior with a new, better-jointed deck.

Draining

Timing and rules

An empty pool should not sit exposed to summer sun for long, and most Valley cities set rules for where drained pool water can go. Draining is planned as part of the job.

Ground movement

Cracks worth reading

Soil movement and heat can open cracks in coping, tile and sometimes the shell. We separate surface cracks from structural ones before recommending a scope.

The Process

How a Remodel Unfolds

Assess the pool

At the site visit we inspect shell, plumbing, equipment, tile and deck, and hear what you want to change.

Design the new version

A 3D design and detailed proposal within a week show the remodeled pool and yard before work begins.

Drain and demo

The pool is drained under local rules, and old finish, tile, coping and decking come out as needed.

Rebuild and refill

New features, tile, finish and equipment go in, then the pool is filled, balanced and started up.

Remodel FAQ

Questions Before You Remodel

Should I remodel my pool or build a new one?

If the shell is structurally sound and the pool sits in a good spot, a remodel usually delivers more for the money. If it is the wrong size, in the wrong place or has serious structural problems, a new pool may be the better investment. We assess it on site and tell you honestly.

How do I know my pool needs resurfacing?

Rough patches that snag feet, stains that will not brush out, etching, hollow-sounding spots and visible plaster loss are the common signs. Where the finish has worn through, resurfacing protects the shell as well as the look.

Can I add a sun shelf or spa to my existing pool?

In many cases, yes. Sun shelves, benches and spas can often be formed inside or alongside the existing shell. Whether it works depends on depth, structure and plumbing, which we check during the site visit.

Do pool remodels need permits?

Many do, especially structural changes, new gas or electrical work and barrier updates, while a simple resurface may not. We confirm the requirements for your city and HOA and handle the paperwork.

Can I upgrade old equipment to Pentair automation?

Yes. Replacing older pumps with variable-speed models, adding LED lighting and installing Pentair automation lets you run the pool from your phone and usually lowers energy use. See smart automation for details.
