Water and Fire Features With Presence

Sheer descents, waterfalls, fire bowls and fountains, the details that turn a pool into an experience, engineered into the design from day one.

Water and Fire

Sound, Motion and Flame

Features are what guests remember: the hush of water sheeting off a wall, the flicker of a fire bowl at the pool corner, the glow of a fire table under the stars.

We design features as part of the pool from the first drawing. Plumbing and pumps for water, gas lines for fire and power for lighting are routed during construction, so each element looks built in and runs reliably. That planning is also what lets water features and lighting run on their own schedules in Pentair automation.

Water features range from quiet to dramatic. Bubblers on a sun shelf add playful motion, scuppers in bronze, copper or stone pour from a raised wall, and sheer descents lay down a clean ribbon of water. Rain curtains and deck jets add theater for parties. Each changes the sound of the yard, so we match volume to how close it sits to seating and bedrooms.

Fire brings the other half. Fire bowls on pedestals, fire-and-water bowls that pour and burn at once, linear fire tables and fire pits make fall through spring evenings the best of the year. Our outdoor living team places them where people actually gather.

The Options

Choosing the Right Feature

01

Sheer descents

A thin, glassy sheet of water from a raised wall. Calm, modern and lovely when lit from below.

02

Scuppers

Water pouring from a spout in a raised wall or column, with a fuller sound that suits stone and traditional homes.

03

Bubblers

Low jets on a sun shelf that kids love and loungers enjoy, adding motion with little noise.

04

Fire bowls

Gas-fed bowls on pedestals or raised walls that frame the pool and reflect in the water at night.

05

Fire and water bowls

A single bowl that spills water and holds a flame, a statement piece for a pool corner.

06

Fire tables and pits

Gathering points for lounges and patios, from long linear tables to round stone pits.

Features That Work in Desert Conditions

Water and fire both behave differently in dry heat, wind and hard water.

Evaporation

Moving water, lost water

Every feature that sprays or sheets water increases evaporation. Running features for evenings and gatherings saves water and steadies chemistry.

Summer heat

A help in July

Running water features overnight can help a pool shed heat in the hottest months, when water often runs warmer than most swimmers like.

Monsoon wind

Flames and spray

Gusts blow spray off a sheer and push flames sideways. Placement out of the prevailing wind, wind guards near fire and quick shutoff keep both safe in storms.

Hard water

Calcium on the lip

Sheer lips, scuppers and stone faces collect white scale where water evaporates. Smooth materials, balanced chemistry and routine cleaning keep features sharp.

The Process

Designing Features Into the Build

Pick the moments

On the site visit we talk about where you sit, what you see from inside and how much sound you want.

Show it in 3D

Your 3D design and proposal, within a week, place each feature so you can judge scale and sight lines.

Route the utilities

Feature plumbing, pumps, gas lines and lighting are permitted and installed as the pool is built.

Tune and schedule

Flow, flame and lighting are adjusted on site, then water features and lights are scheduled in Pentair automation.

Water and Fire FAQ

Questions About Features

Can water features be added to an existing pool?

Often. Bubblers and deck jets can sometimes be retrofitted with modest work, while sheer descents and scuppers usually need a raised wall and new plumbing. We assess the pool and the equipment pad and recommend what fits.

Do fire features need a gas line?

Most permanent fire bowls, tables and pits run on natural gas or propane through a buried line, which typically requires a permit. Placement, clearances and shutoffs are planned with the rest of the yard.

Are water features loud?

They range from a whisper to a roar. Bubblers and sheer descents are fairly quiet, while scuppers and rain curtains are louder. We match each feature to its distance from seating and bedrooms, and flow can be adjusted.

Do water features raise my water bill?

They increase evaporation, so they use some extra water, especially in summer. Running them on a schedule rather than nonstop keeps the impact modest.

Can I control water and fire features from my phone?

Water features and lighting can run on Pentair automation, so you can switch them on, change light colors or set schedules from an app. Some fire features can be tied in too, depending on the ignition system.
